Hyderabad: TRS MP G Ranjith Reddy requested Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur to sanction funds for upgrading the Gachibowli sports complex.
In a request to the Union Minister during Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, Reddy said the Gachibowli sports complex was constructed more than two decades ago in a sprawling 90 acres and was considered as one of the leading sports stadia in the country.
The complex has almost every single sports facility indoor and outdoor with two Astro turfs for hockey. Looking at the facilities and importance of the sports complex, the Central government hosted mega-events like 32nd National Games, Afro-Asian Games, World Military Games to name a few.
Due to the extensive use of sports complex and facilities created more than two decades ago, there is a dire need to upgrade the infrastructure and other facilities at this stadium to meet international standards which will also help athletes in the country, he said.
The Secretary, Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Telangana, has sent a proposal to the Ministry to upgrade and refurbish Gachibowli sports complex at an estimated cost of Rs 52 crore to give a new lease of life to it.
“We request the Union Sports Minister to kindly consider this positively and ensure that money may be released to take up works without any further delay,” Reddy urged.
