G9 beats Loyola Academy in Samuel Vasanth Kumar Memorial basketball
G9 defeated Loyola Academy 84-62 in the sixth Samuel Vasanth Kumar Memorial Basketball Tournament at YMCA Secunderabad, with Sravan scoring 28 points. Sanathnagar PG also won 59-51 against Good Training Academy in a late-night match
Hyderabad: G9 scored a comfortable 84-62 win over Loyola Academy in the sixth Samuel Vasanth Kumar Memorial Basketball Tournament conducted by the Sports Writers Association of Telangana (SWAT) at YMCA Secunderabad on Thursday.
G9 dominated from the start. Sravan used his height to good effect in the paint, scoring 12 of G9’s 22 points in the first quarter. Loyola started slowly, scoring 13, as G9 led 22-13 by the end of the opening quarter.
In the next quarter, Loyola switched to man-to-man marking which slowed G9’s scoring. Riyaz and Vivek combined well to bridge the gap to 30-33. However, a three-pointer from Sameer saw G9 close the first half 40-34.
G9 played a fast game with many steals from Satya and Jaswanth, netting a massive 29 points through Chandu, Sravan and Sameer. Loyola managed only 15 points as G9 led comfortably 69-49 at the end of the third quarter. In the last, Loyola tried hard to recover, scoring through Vivek and Lohith, but the gap was too big to close.
In the late-night match on Wednesday, Sanathnagar PG scored a hard-fought 59-51 win over Good Training Academy after leading 30-12 at half-time.
