Hyderabad: The health department is making all out efforts to resume non-Covid health care services at Gandhi Hospital, despite the threat of a resurgence of Covid-19 infections in Hyderabad and elsewhere in the State.

Authorities at Gandhi Hospital are racing against time to roll-out non-Covid health care services before November 21. However, difficulties continue to remain, as the hospital management has to come up with a plan to simultaneously provide health care to Covid-19 positive patients and non-Covid patients. A few beds at Gandhi Hospital also have to be set aside, just in case there is a resurgence of Covid-19 infections in the coming days and hospitals beds with oxygen supply and ICU care are desperately needed.

To reduce burden for Gandhi Hospital, on Tuesday, the Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr K Ramesh Reddy directed Superintendents of all teaching hospitals to ensure they treat non-critical cases locally and avoid unnecessarily referring them to Gandhi Hospital.

The DME has also directed teaching hospitals across the State to create Covid isolation wards in their respective hospitals to provide isolation facilities to Obstetrics and Gyneacology (OBG) cases who test Covid positive. The District Hospital in King Koti and TIMS, Gachibowli will continue to function as exclusive Covid hospitals.
