Medak: As Telangana prepared for Ganesh festivities, several villages in Medak were devastated by heavy overnight rains.

Villagers brought Ganesh idols on Tuesday and prepared pandals for installation on Wednesday morning. They collected donations to meet expenses for the nine-day festivities, but the midnight downpour dashed their plans.

By morning, residents of Havelighanpur, Papannapet, Medak, Pedda Shankarampet and Ramayampet mandals abandoned festive preparations and rushed to safety as heavy rains lashed their villages.

In villages like Dhup Singh Thanda, Nagapur, Vadi and Rajpet, celebrations were abandoned as residents struggled for basic needs. Cut off by floods, they faced acute shortages of drinking water and food.

Power supply was disrupted in many areas, while farmers reported cattle being swept away in overflowing streams.
