Hyderabad: A tragic accident in Bandlaguda claimed the lives of two young men and left another critically injured after a massive Ganesh idol they were moving, came into contact with high-tension power lines on Monday night.

The two victims have been identified as 22-year-old Vikas and 21-year-old Tony, the driver of the tractor. Akhilesh (23), was also a part of the group and is currently hospitalized with serious injuries.

As per available information, the incident occurred when the group was transporting a 22-foot Ganesh idol from Laxmiguda to Puranapul when the accident occurred when they reached near the Royal Sea Hotel.

According to the police, the idol which was being pulled by a tractor struck an overhead high-tension wire, causing an electric shock. Following this, all those on the vehicle fell on the ground.

The Bandlaguda police are investigating.

However, officials from the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) have disputed the cause, claiming their inspection found no evidence of contact with high-tension lines.

Police officials said preliminary investigations indicated that a possible electric shock led to the incident. They are now awaiting forensic and autopsy reports to determine the definitive cause of death.
