Adilabad: The 11-day-long Ganesh Chaturthi festival culminated with the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols across erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday.
Nearly 6,000 idols were ceremoniously immersed in local water bodies to mark the conclusion of the festival in Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. Devotees bid farewell to the deity amid grand processions, music and prayers. Elaborate arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of immersion.
The immersion processions passed through Vinayak Chowk, Devichand Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, Cinema Road and other important junctions of the town. Devotees danced to drum beats and devotional songs, while women performed the traditional Kolatam dance. Voluntary organisations served food and provided drinking water to participants.
Around 2,100 policemen were deployed at immersion venues to prevent untoward incidents, while 800 CCTV cameras were installed to keep a watch on troublemakers across the four districts.
