Ganesh Immersion: 21,000 police personnel deployed across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 21,000-strong police force will be deployed in the city to ensure security during the Ganesh immersion procession on Sunday.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said senior police officials and constabulary from others districts would assist the police during the immersion procession. Platoons of the Telangana State Special Police, Quick Response Team and Rapid Action Force teams would also be deployed.
“The procession route is divided into sectors and all senior police officials will be supervising the proceedings. We expect the procession to start early and end by Sunday night,” Anjani Kumar said, adding that the IT cell of the City Police had done extensive geotagging of Ganesh idol pandals and prepared bar-coded stickers to help in tracking of each idol. Apart from the Hussain Sagar, the immersion would also take place at Rajanna Bowli, Errakunta tank, Mir Alam tank and Hasmathpet in the city. Arrangements were made for immersion at various locations in Rachakonda and Cyberabad too.
Around 30,000 idols are expected to be immersed in the Hussain Sagar till the completion of the process in the early hours of Monday. The authorities have made arrangements for immersion at Tank Bund, Sanjeevaiah Park and NTR Marg. The traffic police will oversee the parking arrangements and movement of vehicles carrying idols around Hussain Sagar.
Teams of policemen in civilian clothes will be deployed to check anti-social elements like pickpockets and chain snatchers while She Teams will check for instances of harassment of women. The police are focusing on social media platforms to prevent any mischievous elements from spreading rumours in bids to foment trouble. A senior official will be monitoring the procession from the Command and Control Centre at the CP’s Office.
