Mahabubabad: In a shocking and tragic incident, a 23-year-old woman from Alair village of Nellikuduru mandal in the district, who was allegedly gang raped on February 17, died at the government area hospital here late on Tuesday after she attempted suicide on February 18.
According to sources, police found a suicide note on her bed in the hospital in which she alleged that she had been raped and tortured by four people including a police constable, and an MPTC’s husband on February 17. The constable accused of sexual assault was reportedly working with the Warangal police commissionerate.
The sources said the woman, who cleared intermediate a couple of years ago, was preparing for police constable exam by attending classes at Mahubababad, shuttling between her village and the town. While the victim’s mother died several years ago, she and her younger brother were living with her father, a lorry driver. “Depressed by the incident, the woman tried to end her life on February 18, but she was rushed to Mahabubabad area hospital for treatment where she died while undergoing treatment,” a relative said.
Mahabubabad Circle Inspector S Karunakar Rao, however, told mediapersons who contacted him that they had not received any complaint about the incident. “But we will enquire the matter,” he added.
Sources said the police had already taken two accused into custody based on the suicide note and were inquiring into the matter. One of the accused, an autorickshaw driver, lives in the same locality as the victim in the village. The police have also taken steps to prevent law and order problem in the village following the death of the woman.
