Gangula Kamalakar suspended despite absence; Speaker’s move draws flak

Speaker G Prasad Kumar’s decision to suspend BRS MLA Gangula Kamalakar, who was absent from the Assembly, along with 21 other party legislators, has stirred controversy. The move followed protests by BRS members demanding action against Congress MLAs for remarks against party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao.

Hyderabad: Speaker G Prasad Kumar’s announcement suspending Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Karimnagar Gangula Kamalakar from the House for the remainder of the session has drawn political criticism.

The Karimnagar MLA was absent from the House on Wednesday. Yet, the Speaker announced his name along with 21 other BRS MLAs who were suspended for the remainder of the session over their conduct.

The suspension came as the BRS MLAs demanded the suspension of Congress MLAs who had wished for the death of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao.

BJP Floor Leader A Maheswar Reddy said it was the first time that a Member who was absent from the House had been suspended. Describing the move as painful, he raised the issue while speaking in the Assembly.

“The suspension of a few Members from the House is also painful. Has any Revanth Reddy rulebook been arranged?” he asked.
