Police seized ganja worth Rs 1.65 crore at Brindavanam of Chunchupalli mandal in Kothagudem district on Monday.

Kothagudem: Police seized a huge cache of ganja worth Rs 1.65 crore at Brindavanam village of Chunchupalli mandal in the district on Monday and arrested one person.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt speaking to the media persons at Chunchupalli police station in Kothagudem informed that the local police while conducting vehicle inspections stopped a lorry going to Khammam.


Upon checking the lorry police found 825 kg of ganja hidden beneath a load of tiles in the vehicle. The accused was identified as Dinesh, lorry driver of Kanchpura of Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh.

During interrogation, Dinesh, working as an agriculture worker and lorry driver, confessed that he joined hands with his childhood friend, Sunil of Paroli of Gwalior and both decided to get into ganja smuggling to come out of their financial troubles.

They purchased ganja from unknown persons at Kunta forest area in Chhattisgarh and were smuggling the substance to sell it in Gwalior. Sunil is absconding, the SP informed. DSP, G Venkateshwara Babu and others were present.
