Gear up to provide irrigation water to 40K acres from Singur: Harish

Sangareddy: Finance Minister T Harish Rao has instructed Irrigation department officials in Sangareddy district to impound water in all the irrigation tanks under Singur project to provide irrigation to over 40,000 acres ayacut in Sangareddy district for Yasangi crop.
When irrigation authorities informed him that 70 of the 170 tanks under the project had surplus water, Harish Rao asked them to fill the remaining 100 tanks by releasing water from Singur project.
The Minister was speaking at a a meeting with district officials and elected representatives in Singur. Asking the Agriculture department officials to prepare a plan of action for Yasangi cultivation, Harish Rao instructed them to enumerate the crop losses and send him a report through District Collector M Hanumantha Rao.
Saying that as many as 42 low-level causeways and culverts were damaged due to the heavy rains, he directed the officials to send him proposals for taking up repairs works immediately. Similarly, 144 kms of R&B roads were damaged, he said and asked R&B officials to send him proposals to take up the works at a cost of Rs 30 crore.
Saying that the officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Road and Buildings (R&B) are lacking coordination, Rao has said that many works have remained pending for many days. The Minister has suggested the Collector to hold a meeting with both the department officials to sort out all such issues and get the works done.
Stating that several Panchayat raj roads were damaged due to rains in Narayankhed area, he has asked the concerned officials to take up the repairing works on war footing to restore the road communication,
Zilla Parishad Chairperson, P Manjusri, MLA, Andole, Chanti Kranthi Kiran and others were present.
The Minister has also inspected some rain hit areas in Sangareddy today.
