Germany beat India 3-1 in Junior Women’s World Cup hockey

Santiago (Chile): The Indian junior women’s hockey team suffered a 1-3 defeat against Germany in their second match of the FIH Junior Women’s World Cup campaign at the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped, Estadio Nacional in Santiago on Wednesday.
Hina Bano (58’) scored the only goal for India, while Lena Frerichs (5’), Annika Schönhoff (52’) and Martina Reisenegger (59’) were on target for Germany.
Germany struck early through a penalty stroke converted by Frerichs in the fifth minute. India settled into their rhythm thereafter but failed to convert opportunities in the first half, which ended 1-0.
India pressed hard in the second half, creating chances from penalty corners but could not find the equaliser. Germany doubled their lead through Schönhoff in the 52nd minute. India pulled one back via Hina Bano in the 58th, but Reisenegger’s strike a minute later sealed the win for Germany.
India will next face Ireland on December 5 at 1730 hours IST.
