Karimnagar: Telangana Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar came down heavily on BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar for making baseless comments against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. It may be recalled that reacting to TRS leaders’ protests against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Statehood for Telangana, the BJP leader said that Chandrashekhar Rao was not there in the House when separate Telangana Bill was passed in Parliament.
Terming the BJP leader’s comments as false, Vinod Kumar alleged that Sanjay Kumar made baseless statements without knowing the facts. All TRS MPs including Chandrashekhar Rao reached Parliament at 8.30 am on the day when the Telangana Bill was moved in the House. Though he was not an MP at that time, he also went to Parliament along with K Keshavarao, Jitender Reddy and other TRS MPs.
Not only that, they even camped in Delhi for ten days and met MPs of all political parties seeking their support for the Telangana Bill. As a member of the House, senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu moved some private bills expressing doubts on Hyderabad and other issues. If Sanjay Kumar was not aware of all these issues, the BJP president should try to know the facts by consulting BJP MPs who were present in the House at that time, Vinod Kumar said while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
“It was a common practice to pass Bills by closing the doors of Parliament House if a Bill came for voting. Is Modi not aware of this common practice?” he questioned. Reacting to PM’s pepper spray comments, he said congress MP from Andhra region Lagadapati Rajagopal sprayed pepper on Telangana MPs to stall the House. There was no meaning in Modi’s statement that the Telangana Bill was passed without any debate. BJP senior leader Sushma Swaraj spoke on separate State issues extensively in the House.
When 90 to 95 per cent of MPs had supported the Telangana cause, how could the PM comment that a majority of the people had opposed the formation of a separate State, he questioned. Modi, who made comments against the formation of Telangana during the 2014 election campaign, merged seven mandals of Telangana with AP through an ordinance passed in his first Cabinet meeting.
Though he raised his voice for debate on the Ordinance, the Bill was passed in Parliament through statutory resolution without any debate. Moreover, three agricultural bills were also passed without any discussion. Reacting to the BJP president’s criticizing that Chief Minister had not arrived airport to receive PM when the latter came to Hyderabad recently, Vinod Kumar questioned why did Sanjay Kumar not respond when Chandrashekhar Rao and his cabinet colleagues were denied permission to meet Modi when the latter had visited Bharat Biotech.
