Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Heritage and Precincts Committee (GHHC) has ordered the removal of encroachments near 25 protected monuments in the city. It also ordered the cleaning of bushes and improving landscaping at these places. This came in the wake of the first GHHC city level meeting held at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) head office.
The meeting was attended by GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar who is also the chairman of GHHC, Hyderabad District Collector L Sharman, Central Zone DCP, P Vishwa Prasad, Madhapur DCP M Venkateshwarlu, GHMC Chief City City Planner Devender Reddy and officials from Medchal- Malkajgiri District collectorates and also the line departments.
In the year 2017, the State government has passed an Act for Conservation, Preservation, Restoration and Maintenance of Heritage and ordered the formation of committees at three levels i.e. Telangana State Heritage Authority (TSHA) at State level, District Heritage and Precincts Committees (DHPC) for each district at the district level excluding GHMC limits, and Greater Hyderabad Heritage and Precincts Committee (GHHC) for GHMC and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits.
Meanwhile, the State government has already taken up conservation of heritage in the city and the recent works include restoring the Char Kaman (four arches – Machli Kaman, Charminar Kaman, Kaman-e-Sehar-Batil and Kali Kaman).
One more nomination for GHMC committee member
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to constitute its Standing Committee on November 20. Madhapur Corporator Jagadeeshwar Goud has filed his nomination on Tuesday and till date, four corporators have filed their nominations. The members will be elected through an election scheduled to be held on November 20 at the GHMC head office.
The Standing Committee comprises 15 corporators and is headed by the Mayor. It is the apex body of the GHMC which takes important policy decisions including sanctioning of funds.
