Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner R V Karnan on Saturday directed officials to assess Hyderabad’s public health situation and strengthen measures to prevent and control vector-borne diseases.

A press statement said that Karnan reviewed entomological surveillance, identification and elimination of mosquito-breeding sources, preventive measures and field-level implementation at a meeting held at GHMC head office. Experts from Osmania University’s Department of Entomology will provide technical inputs on mosquito control and scientific methods for identifying and eliminating breeding sites.

Karnan directed medical and health officials to ensure close coordination between GHMC field staff and health authorities. He said inter-departmental coordination, scientific surveillance and prompt field action were essential to strengthen public health measures.

“Intensify field inspections, act promptly on identified mosquito-breeding sites and raise public awareness about hygiene and preventing water stagnation,” added Karnan.
