Hyderabad: To make sure people are not forced to shell out extra money to perform the last rites of their departed, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started displaying the charges at crematoriums.

The rate for conducting the last rites on a funeral pyre using wood is Rs.8,000 while the charge for electric cremation is Rs.4,000. People were also asked to report any irregularities by dialing 040-21111111, the GHMC’s landline number.

GHMC zonal commissioners are also inspecting graveyards to check whether extra money is being charged from people. On Saturday, they spoke to relatives of the deceased and enquired about the facilities and charges collected from them. The civic officials also instructed caretakers of the crematorium to strictly adhere to the charges.
