Hyderabad: Gearing up for monsoon, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has paced up the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) works with plans to complete them before the rains arrive. As part of the exercise, senior engineers in all the GHMC zones were asked to meet the deadline without failure.
Recently, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao instructed GHMC officials to start monsoon related works in February instead of postponing them till the rains arrived, following which the works were speeded up.
To address the issue of urban flooding, the stormwater drain network in the city is being revamped at a cost of Rs 858.32 crore in SNDP’s first phase. A total of 60 works were been proposed under the SNDP and among them 37 works were in the GHMC limits. The remaining works were proposed in municipal corporations and municipalities around GHMC.
“Out of the 37 works in GHMC limits, works are underway at a brisk pace in 26 places and the tender process for the remaining works will be completed before the end of this month,” said GHMC in a press release.
