GHMC redesigns KBR Park H-CITI infrastructure as flyovers, underpasses are reassessed
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan said infrastructure proposals around KBR Park were being reassessed after one-way traffic received a good response. The revised H-CITI plan includes a 4.3-km elevated corridor in two packages, with the project costing Rs 1,090 crore.

Hyderabad: The previous proposals for flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park are being reassessed after the implementation of one-way traffic received a good response, said GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan.
Karnan on Monday toured KBR Park with senior engineering officials after revised proposals for infrastructure works around the park were approved at the Standing Committee meeting on October 3.
Karnan told the media that the unified elevated corridor would replace an earlier proposal involving a complex network of separate underpasses and grade separators.
The Commissioner said H-CITI infrastructure works around KBR Park were being reassessed to overcome legal delays, as pending litigation over tree-felling permissions had stalled construction.
GHMC has finalised a continuous, unified elevated corridor from Jubilee Hills Check Post to NFCL Junction (Punjagutta), replacing an earlier plan for fragmented grade separators.
He said GHMC had decided to undertake fresh works in two phases at KBR Park under H-CITI. The total project cost is Rs 1,090 crore and the works will be executed under the EPC mode in two packages, using advanced steel-structure technology for faster completion.
Package 1 comprises a Rs 580-crore elevated corridor from Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction to Mugdha Junction. Package 2 will cost Rs 510 crore and extend to Muffakham Jah College, with a dedicated ramp to Banjara Hills Road No. 1.
Previous H-CITI works around KBR Park
GHMC had taken up earth excavation for proposed steel flyovers and underpasses at seven locations around KBR Park under earlier H-CITI works and invested Rs 1,090 crore to complete infrastructure works around KBR Park.
Revised H-CITI works and benefits
Seamless transit: Uninterrupted, signal-free movement across five major traffic junctions.
4.3-km elevated corridor: A six-lane, bidirectional elevated corridor to handle high traffic volumes.
Minimal impact on green cover: Zero footprint in the eco-sensitive zone around KBR Park, ensuring minimal impact on the existing green cover.
Commuter relief: Substantial reductions in daily travel times, queue lengths and vehicle fuel consumption by streamlining the alignment into a unified elevated corridor and avoiding extensive ground-level modifications.
Land acquisition savings: Rs 800 crore will be saved, drastically reducing the need to acquire high-value private land.
Construction cost savings: The new design will save Rs 400 crore in construction costs compared with the earlier multi-component underpass and separator design, while Rs 1,200 crore can be saved as high-capacity transit coverage expands.
