GHMC relocates PV Narasimha Rao statue for KBR Park infrastructure project
The GHMC has relocated the bronze statue of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao from a traffic island near the Indo American Cancer Hospital to the Japanese Garden to facilitate H-CITI infrastructure works around KBR Park. Another statue may also be shifted.
Hyderabad: A bronze statue of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao has been relocated from the traffic island near the Indo-American Cancer Hospital to the Japanese Park by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities, as part of infrastructure works near KBR Park in Banjara Hills.
The relocation became necessary to clear the path for a proposed steel bridge and an underpass project around KBR Park. The GHMC has taken up earth excavation for these flyovers and underpasses under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) Project.
The PVNR statue was originally unveiled on February 6, 2009, by then-United Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy on a landscaped traffic island near the hospital’s main entrance.
GHMC engineering officials stated that the statue was shifted with care and without any damage. It has now been placed near the fountain area of the Japanese Garden, opposite the Multilevel Automated Car Parking facility in Banjara Hills.
Meanwhile, sources indicated that the statue of Agrasen Maharaj, at the traffic island near the Integrated Police Command Control Centre (IPCCC), may also be relocated as part of the H-CITI project, though a final decision on the timing is yet to be made. Both monuments lie directly in the path of the proposed steel bridges and underpasses.
