GHMC removes over 97 MT waste on Day 1 of monsoon drive
GHMC removed 36 MT of legacy municipal solid waste and 61.5 MT of C&D waste on the first day of its 10-day monsoon drive. Teams also cleared potholes, catch pits and culverts and inspected public facilities across 30 wards
Hyderabad: On Day 1 of a special monsoon drive launched across the city, GHMC teams removed 36 MT of legacy municipal solid waste and 61.5 MT of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.
In a press release, GHMC said the 10-day special monsoon drive was launched with intensive civic and sanitation activities taken up in 30 wards. The drive focused on improving sanitation, fixing potholes, strengthening public health measures and creating awareness among citizens.
As part of monsoon preparedness, 109 potholes were filled, 105 catch pits cleaned and five culverts cleared, while 16.78 MT of floating material and silt was removed.
GHMC said a total of 19 rainwater harvesting structures were initiated, and 30 non-residential buildings were surveyed. The civic body also inspected 22 public toilets and installed 99 commercial bins at shops to improve waste management.
Health and veterinary activities included pyrethrum spraying, vaccination and shelter-transfer measures for stray dogs. “34.9 MT of pruned tree branches and 9 MT of dry and green waste from 31 parks were lifted during the drive,” according to the press release.
