GHMC reviews monsoon preparedness; Transport minister orders survey of unsafe buildings
GHMC commissioner RV Karnan and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar held a review meeting at Tank Bund to assess Hyderabad’s monsoon preparedness. The minister instructed officials to survey unsafe buildings, intensify nala desilting, and enforce rainwater harvesting compliance to minimise flooding risks and ensure civic safety.

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan and Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar conducted a review meeting with officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at Tank Bund to assess monsoon preparedness and ensure effective civic management across the city.
The minister directed civic body officials to undertake a thorough survey of dilapidated and unsafe buildings across all circles and immediately issue notices to property owners to vacate or take measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the monsoon season.
Ponnam also directed the officials concerned to intensify nala desilting and clearance works to facilitate the free flow of stormwater and minimise the risk of urban flooding.
Regarding rainwater harvesting (RWH) pits, he said the officials must ensure RWH pits were made compulsory for all residential apartments and commercial establishments, identify buildings lacking RWH pits and serve notices to ensure compliance.
He also reviewed streetlights and the tree plantation drive with civic body officials. GHMC commissioner RV Karnan and Hyderabad Collector Priyanka Ala were also present.
