Hyderabad: Some of the high-profile establishments, including Katriya Hotel, Swarna Transport, and Shameem Sultana Cloth Mall, were seized by the teams of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as it intensifies its crackdown on property tax defaulters.
Leading the list of enforcement actions is the seizure of the Katriya Hotel in the Khairatabad Circle, which owes Rs 6.16 crore in arrears dating back to 2017.
Similar stringent measures were taken in the Goshamahal Circle against Swarna Transport for dues amounting to Rs 36 lakh, while the Shameem Sultana Cloth Mall on Road No 10, Banjara Hills, was sealed over pending payments of Rs 35.27 lakh.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan has issued clear directives to Deputy Commissioners to prioritise action against top defaulters across all circles as the March 31 deadline for the One-Time Scheme (OTS) quickly approaches.
Under this scheme, taxpayers are encouraged to clear their principal dues to benefit from interest waivers; however, the civic body is now resorting to property attachments to recover persistent arrears.
Following these orders, warrant teams have been deployed city-wide to ensure that major commercial entities comply with their financial obligations before the end of the fiscal year.
