Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up several measures to enforce the prescribed Covid-19 safety guidelines were being followed at the vegetable, fruit and fish markets in the city. The civic body is making all efforts to ensure that marketplaces do not become sources for the spread of the virus.
The markets in the city that bustle during the four-hour lockdown relaxation period were identified and the municipal corporation has pressed into service its staffers at these places to sensitise people. Announcing Covid norms on loudhailers, warning vendors, re-arranging the stalls to adhere to social distancing norms, informing people about penalties and monitoring sanitation were some among many measures taken up by the staffers at markets.
On Saturday, at a fish market located in the GHMC Secunderabad zone, municipal employees went around the market and announced Covid guidelines. All the staffers were wearing aprons and one of them was holding the loudhailer. “Everyone should wear a mask and please follow social distancing norms. Vendors should hand over the waste to GHMC vehicles,” announced a staffer.
A similar exercise was taken up at a vegetable market located in Kukatpally and the GHMC staffers cautioned shoppers and also the vendors in the market to strictly following the guidelines of social distancing, wearing masks and having the premises clean.
“There should be a minimum gap of four feet between each stall. If there is no adequate distance between the two stalls, they will be removed. Vendors should not sell vegetables to people who are not wearing a mask. The penalty for mask violation is Rs 1,000,” warned the staffer.
