Hyderabad: To prevent urban flooding of major water streams, such as the Musi River and its tributaries flowing through the Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR), the GHMC has proposed the preparation of a comprehensive stormwater master plan for the entire TCUR.
On Thursday, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Commissioner, K Ilambarithi, accepted the proposal and issued government orders to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to invite tenders for the preparation of the master plan.
The proposed master plan aims to prevent urban flooding of major water streams, including the Musi River and its tributaries flowing through the TCUR. It will address issues related to stormwater drainage, urban flooding, and sustainable water flow systems across the area. The plan will include planning, mapping, and the design of integrated drainage networks using advanced technologies such as GIS and hydrological modelling. The initiative is expected to enhance resilience to heavy rains, protect infrastructure, and improve public safety.
