Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to constitute its standing committee on November 20. The standing committee is being formed post the GHMC elections that were held in December, 2020.
The standing committee comprises of 15 corporators headed by the Mayor and it is the apex body of GHMC which takes important policy decisions. Any work of more than Rs 2 crore must be approved by the standing committee while works of less than Rs 2 crore can be approved by GHMC commissioner or zonal commissioners.
As per norms, if the funds needed for one single work ranges from Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore, the proposals have to be placed before the standing committee for approval. For works ranging from Rs 3 crore to Rs 6 crore, the proposals must be placed in the General Body Meeting and if the works exceed Rs 6 crore, they should be sent to the State government for approval through the standing committee.
The standing committee will comprise of 15 members and since GHMC has 150 wards, about 15 members will be elected. The Standing committee members will be elected through an election scheduled on Saturday, November 20 at the GHMC head office.
Counting of votes will be done on the same day and declaration of poll results is also scheduled on the same day.
GHMC will accept nominations from November 3 to November 11 (11 am to 3 pm) excluding public holidays. Date of publication of the valid nominations is November 11, post which scrutiny will be done on November 12. Last date of withdrawal is November 15 and the final list of contesting candidates will be published on the same day.
