Hyderabad: Two Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste recycling plants, one each in the southern and northern parts of the city, are being set up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The civic body has called for tenders inviting companies to set up the recycling plant on their own land. The land parcel should be of a minimum of five-acre and the last date to participate in the tender process is February 21.

These plants will be in addition to the two existing plants at Jeedimetla and Fathullaguda. Currently, around 1,500 metric tonnes to 2,000 metric tonnes of debris is generated every day within GHMC limits and this waste is being recycled by the two C&D plants.

Till date, around 11.58 lakh metric tonne of waste has been collected and 2.94 lakh metric tonne processed at Jeedimetla C&D plant, while in Fathullaguda C&D plant, 7.41 lakh metric tonne of waste has been collected and 0.51 lakh metric tonne has been processed, a press release from the GHMC said. Both the facilities are equipped to recycle 500 metric tonnes of debris a day.

As per norms, to dispose of the debris, people should dial 18001201159. As a tipping fee, an amount of Rs 350.59 per metric tonne will be charged if the waste is transported to Jeedimetla and Rs 342.59 per metric tonne will be charged if the waste is transported to Fathullaguda.
