Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Friday appealed citizens to encourage community fire-cracking. To facilitate the same and for smooth conduct of the festival, locations will also be identified, said the civic body.

“Citizens are requested to share information pertaining to sale of banned firecrackers to the nearest Police Station. Citizens are also requested to encourage community fire cracking. To facilitate the community event, locations would be identified and designated beforehand by the authorities concerned,” said GHMC in a press release.

This came in wake of the Supreme Court’s order on regulating the bursting of the crackers and use of green crackers. Following this, production, sale and use of firecrackers and series crackers or laris other than green crackers are banned. Illegal imports, sale and distribution of these fireworks is a punishable offense. “Teams have been formed to identify shops/persons selling imported firecrackers and to impose severe penalties/punishments,” said GHMC in a press release.
