HYDERABAD: A GHMC sanitation worker was killed when a speeding RTC bus rammed into her at Amberpet on Thursday morning. The incident triggered a protest by the GHMC workers, who blocked the road and demanded action against the bus driver.

The victim, M Pushpa, was crossing the road when an RTC bus was negotiating a roundabout and it hit and ran over the victim. The woman died on the spot due to the injuries. The Amberpet police reached the spot and called in additional forces as several GHMC workers gathered at the place and started a protest.

“The bus driver showed negligence that led to the accident. A case is registered against him,” said Amberpet Inspector, T Kiran Kumar.

The GHMC workers sat on the road and blocked the thoroughfare for an hour, demanding action against the bus driver and compensation to the victim. The police faced a tough time with the GHMC workers, who relented only after an assurance was given by the GHMC higher-ups.
