Hyderabad: A seven-year-old girl drowned in a water sump while playing near her house at Laxmi Nagar Colony in Saidabad here on Friday.

The girl identified as Shivani, was playing alone when she is suspected to have slipped and fell into the water filled sump in front of her house around 5 pm.

According to K. Subbarami Reddy, Inspector (Rajendranagar), the family members, who realised that Shivai was missing for a long time, began searching in the surroundings and found her body in the water pit. They rushed her to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Following a complaint from Shivani’s father, the Saidabad police have booked a case and are investigating. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
