Students of PP2 of Gitanjali Devashray tried their hand at gardening and growing their own “kitchen garden.” Gardening offers wonderful and amazing opportunities for children to play, learn and grow. Gardening can also be a fun and relaxing way to get in touch with nature, the school said. The little ones learnt how science and the environment and healthy eating are all inter-linked.
Children were thrilled to eat veggies grown in their own garden. Even the leafy vegetables like palak, methi tasted amazing as they had planted them and seen them grow. Tomatoes (that they had grown) tasted different and yummy, especially as salad.
This helped them learn about the different names of vegetables and parts of plants. Children grew many plants like colocasia, hibiscus, coriander, fenugreek etc. The aim of the activity was to inculcate qualities like confidence, responsibility, patience, planning and organizing well, and a wonderful way for parents to spend some time bonding with their children.
