Glaucoma Awareness Walk in Hyderabad highlights importance of early detection

The awareness walk also included a flash mob, drawing the attention of visitors at KBR Park and educating them about glaucoma and its treatment, according to a press release. The week-long initiative focused on raising awareness about glaucoma through social media campaigns, practitioner workshops, and continuous medical education (CME) sessions.

Hyderabad: Health enthusiasts, care givers, eye specialists and people from all walks of life on Sunday turned up to participate in the Glaucoma Awareness Walk organized by LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) to commemorate Glaucoma Awareness Week between March 8 and 16.

The health walk also featured a flash mob, ensuring visitors at the KBR Park pulled into the awareness walk and learned a thing or two about glaucoma and its treatment, a press release said. The week-long events centered around spreading awareness on Glaucoma included social media campaigns, workshops for practitioners and continuous medical education (CME) sessions.


Dr Siddharth Dixit, Ophthalmologist (Glaucoma), LVPEI Kallam Anji Reddy camp urged people to get comprehensive eye checkups done at regular intervals to detect glaucoma in the early stages, better manage it and avoid blindness. “Do not miss the tests, especially if you have a family history of glaucoma,” he said.

V C Sajjanar, MD, TSRTC, Senthil, Cinematographer, Dr Sirisha Senthil, Head, Glaucoma Services, LVPEI, Dr Chandra Sekhar, Vice Chair Emeritus, LVPEI and others were present.
