Hyderabad: In a major boost to Hyderabad, GMR Hyderabad International Airport will receive Rs 6,300 crore to increase capacity to 34 million passengers, backed by Groupe ADP partnership, making the airport larger than Paris Orly Airport.
Speaking at the IFCCI Investment Conclave held at Hyderabad on Friday, Antoine Crombez, deputy chief executive officer, GMR Airports Ltd said, “Rs 6,300 crore is being invested by the Hyderabad airport to increase the Airport’s capacity to 34 million passengers. The investment will not only help the airport but also benefit the overall ecosystem around it.”
He added, “Telangana government has created an enabling environment for businesses to grow as the authorities are proactive and are willing to address issues faced by the industry. The State is also suitable to implement several innovations be it related to aviation or technology, which has helped GMR to launch an innovation centric initiative last year. These innovations which are starting off in Hyderabad will be replicated elsewhere in India.”
In February 2020, GIL had announced a strategic partnership with Groupe ADP for its airports business. Groupe ADP’s acquisition of a 49 per cent stake in GMR Airports set a robust industrial partnership. It has invested Rs 10,000 crore in GMR Infrastructure Limited (GIL) despite the pandemic times, Crombez said.
