GO 317 sparks heated debate in Telangana Council

During the Question Hour, Kavitha defended the BRS government's decision to issue GO 317 following the creation of new districts, in line with the Presidential Orders. She explained that the government orders were intended to provide local youth with better access to government jobs. "However, those who criticized the formation of new districts and GO 317 during the BRS tenure are now in power. Instead of addressing the ongoing issues over the past year, they continue to blame the previous BRS government," she remarked.

Hyderabad: A heated debate over GO 317 unfolded in the Telangana Legislative Council, with BRS MLC Kavitha and Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu exchanging sharp remarks. While Sridhar Babu blamed the previous BRS government for the government order creating hurdles in recruitment, Kavitha justified the order.

During the Question Hour, Kavitha defended the BRS government’s decision to issue GO 317 after the creation of new districts, based on the Presidential Orders. She said the government orders were aimed to benefit local youth in government jobs. “However, those who criticised the formation of new districts and GO 317 during the BRS regime, are in power now. Rather than addressing the lingering issues over the past one year, they keep blaming the previous BRS government,” she demanded.

She reminded that if the recruiments are not done on the basis of new districts, there would be no synchronisation with the Centre for administrative purposes. “Solution has to be found in that spirit, rather than blaming the previous government,” she added.

Minister Sridhar Babu countered, blaming the BRS for introducing an unscientific Presidential Orders that created disputes over locality, seniority, and job availability. He admitted that Telangana State was formed with local status as a crucial issue, and the Congress government is making all efforts to address the disputes arising out of GO 317, in consultation with all the stakeholders. However, he stated that solutions to the issue are possible only through amendments to the Presidential Order by the union Home Ministry.

Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy pointed out some benefits of GO 317 and called for efforts to resolve the associated problems while retaining its advantages. MLCs M Kodandaram, Chintapandu Naveen, T Jeevan Reddy, AVN Reddy, and Surabhi Vanidevi also voiced concerns about the government order.
