Hyderabad: For the second consecutive day, BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar continued to face the wrath of farmers and TRS leaders during his visit to Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) paddy procurement centres in Suryapet district on Tuesday.

Clashes took place between the TRS and BJP leaders triggering tension at Arvapalli, Chivemla and Atmakur (S) prompting the police to resort to lathi charge to disperse the warring groups. Alleging that Sanjay was spreading lies and provoking farmers on the issue of paddy, the TRS leaders obstructed his convoy at several places.

On learning that Sanjay would be visiting the IKP centres, large number of TRS leaders assembled to register their protest. Minutes after Sanjay’s convoy reached the IKP centre in Arvapalli, they started raising slogans against him with placards.

Slogans like ‘Sanjay go back… Sanjay go back’ greeted him. At Arvapalli IKP centre, the TRS leaders clashed with BJP supporters with stones and sticks. Sensing that the situation might go out of control, the police used force to disperse the TRS and BJP leaders.

Barricades were also placed on the main stretch to restrict the entry of the people. Similar situation prevailed during Sanjay’s visit to Chivemla and Atmakur (S). He did not come out of his vehicle at PK Pahad crossroads near Chivemla for over an hour on seeing scores of TRS activists.

On coming to know that Sanjay came to a function hall near Tirumalagiri sub-market yard in the evening, hundreds of TRS leaders attempted to enter the premises.

As the police prevented them from entering the function hall, the TRS leaders raised slogans resulting in tension. Both TRS and BJP leaders hurled stones on one another. Three vehicles were damaged in the stone pelting incident near the function hall.

However, the police officials immediately responded and brought the situation under control. Sanjay was supposed to start the second day of visiting IKP centres from Kudakuda village but he skipped it and visited other IKP centres in Chivemla and Atmakur (S).

Sources said the police asked the BJP State president to wait at the function hall in Tirumalagiri till 10 pm before heading to Jangaon.

Cop suffers cardiac problem

A Reserve Sub-Inspector Srinivas reportedly developed cardiac problem while discharging duty at Atmakur (S) where trouble broke out during the visit of BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar to an IKP centre in Suryapet district. The police officials rushed him to hospital in Suryapet town where his condition is stable.
