It might be noted that the water level at Bhadrachalam has been increasing steadily for the past couple of days and the water level recorded at 6 pm on Wednesday was 38.70 feet. The water level was expected to reach the second warning level of 48 feet.
District Collector D Anudeep in a statement on Wednesday informed that there was a possibility of Godavari water level reaching the first warning level by Friday as water was being released from upstream projects like Sriram Sagar, Sripada Yellampalli and Lakshmi barrage.
But in view of the increased volume of inflows from upper reaches the water level crossed the first warning level on Thursday. The Collector directed the revenue officials to take immediate steps to shift the villagers on the banks of the river to relief centres and provide all facilities to them.
