Godavari river crosses second warning level at Bhadrachalam

Kothagudem: River Godavari crossed the second warning level at Bhadrachalam Pushkar Ghat in the district on Saturday evening. District Collector D Anudeep said the river had crossed the first warning level of 43 feet at 7.45 am and the water level touched the second warning level of 48 feet at 5.40 pm.
The Collector advised people living on the river banks to be alert as Godavari had touched the second warning level and forecasts indicated further increase in water level. He held a teleconference with district and mandal officials and told them to work in coordination by taking public safety as a challenge.

Anudeep informed that as many as 27 pregnant women in flood-affected areas in Cherla, Burgampad, Dummugudem, Bhadrachalam, Manugur, Aswapuram and Pinapaka mandals were shifted to hospitals.

The Collector made a surprise inspection of a relief centre late on Friday night and found medical staff missing from the centre. He directed the officials concerned to issue showcause notices to the staff who were absent from duty and warned of serious action if anyone was found neglecting work.
With Godavari reaching the second warning level, the area around Bhadradri temple’s main entrance was flooded with backwaters and Parnasala area near Bhadrachalam was inundated. The officials stopped vehicular traffic on several roads that were flooded.
Meanwhile, officials lifted 10 gates of Taliperu medium irrigation project in Cherla mandal to discharge 11,422 cusecs of surplus water downstream as the water level reached 72.16 metres in the reservoir whose FRL is 74 metres.
