Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday said the government will start impounding Godavari water at Mallanna Sagar reservoir within a month since 95 per cent of the works of the biggest reservoir in the complex Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) have been completed.

The Minister said that they will complete the remaining works within 30 days to facilitate water storage at Mallanna Sagar.

Speaking after launching the 4th phase of Palle Pragathi and Pattana Pragathi programmes at Kukunoorpally village in Kondapak mandal, the Minister said that one could see canals and streams flowing during last summer when water was released from Ranganayaka Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar, which were built in Siddipet as part of KLIS.

Saying that people of Telangana used to suffer for even potable water before the State was created, Rao said that they have provided drinking water to every household under Mission Bhagiratha.

Elaborating how the rural parts of the State were neglected in united Andhra Pradesh, he said they have changed the face of the villages with Palle and Pattana Pragathi.

Saying that they have built dump yards, Vaikuntha Dhamas besides creating Prakruthi Vanams in every village, the Minister said that they were releasing the funds to all the local bodies every month without fail. Stating that the government has procured a record 4.93 lakh tonnes of paddy in Siddipet district this Yasangi, Rao said that they could get a bumper harvest because Siddipet district is the first beneficiary of KLIS water. Despite facing serious financial problems, Rao said that they have deposited Rs 7,300 crore in farmers accounts under the Rythu Bandhu scheme ahead of Vanakalam cultivation. Zilla Parishad Chairperson V Roja Sharma, Forest Development Corporation Chairman Vanteru Prathpa Reddy, Additional Collector Muzammil Khan and others were present.
