Jagtial: Stage is all set to start medical college in Godavarikhani and classes are likely to start from 2022-23 academic year by completing required arrangements. To fulfill the long standing dream of local people and provide corporate level medical facilities, the State Government has decided to establish a medical college in coal belt town Godavarikhani.

Both the State Government and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will be operating the college jointly. Recently, the SCCL management released Rs 500 crore for the construction of college building on Godavarikhani degree college premises. Counseling to fill 150 MBBS seats will be held in September this year.

Besides an ICU center, 85 bedded capacity building is also being constructed in Godavarikhani area hospital premises, which was already converted into general hospital. Singareni area hospital, Godavarikhani, would also be utilized for college purpose. College principal Himabindu recently inspected ongoing construction works of college building, hospital and ICU center and asked the officials to complete a block of college building by September when the first batch of MBBS will start.

Recruitment of faculty is also under progress. Initially, college required 50 faculty members, Out of that 18 senior residence doctors, four professors, three assistant professors, and four senior professors have already joined in the duties. More faculty members are going to be recruited in the coming days. Speaking to Telangana Today, college principal Himabindu informed that they applied for Medical Council of India’s inspection and waiting for MCI inspection. A team from MCI is likely to inspect the college in the coming one month period. After inspection, MCI would give permission for college if they were satisfied with facilities, she said.

When asked about capacity of seats, she informed that they were trying to get permission for 150 seats. According to norms, 50 to 55 faculty members are necessary to start first years MBBS course. While 20 to 25 faculty members were already joined in the duty, more number of faculty members are going to join, she informed.
