Jagtial: The stage is all set for the commencement of classes from the 2022-23 academic year at the medical college in Godavarikhani. All necessary works are going on in full swing. To fulfil the longstanding dream of local people and to provide corporate level medical facilities, the State Government had approved the establishment of a medical college in the coal belt town of Godavarikhani.
Both the State Government and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) will be operating the college jointly. Recently, the SCCL management released Rs 500 crore for the construction of the college building on Godavarikhani degree college premises. Counselling to fill 150 MBBS seats will be held in September this year.
Besides an ICU facility, an 85-bed building is also being constructed in the Godavarikhani area hospital premises. College principal Himabindu recently inspected the ongoing construction works of the college building, hospital and ICU facility and asked the officials to complete a block of college building by September when the first batch of MBBS starts.
Recruitment of faculty is also under progress. Initially, the college requires 50 faculty members, out of which 18 senior residence doctors, four professors, three assistant professors, and four senior professors have already joined the duty. More faculty members are going to be recruited in the coming days. Speaking to Telangana Today, college principal Himabindu informed that they applied for Medical Council of India’s inspection and are awaiting an MCI inspection. A team from MCI is likely to inspect the college in the coming month, she added.
When asked about capacity of seats, she informed that they were trying to get permission for 150 seats. According to norms, 50 to 55 faculty members are necessary to start first-year MBBS course. While 20 to 25 faculty members are already working, more members will be recruited soon, she informed.
