Golconda Gladiators, Secunderabad Stallions clinch Hyderabad District Basketball Championship titles

Golconda Gladiators defeated Secunderabad Stallions 45-34 to win the youth boys' title, while Secunderabad Stallions beat Golconda Gladiators 49-31 in the girls' final at the Hyderabad District Basketball Championship held at YMCA Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Golconda Gladiators and Secunderabad Stallions emerged champions in the youth boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively, at the Hyderabad District Basketball Championship held at the YMCA, Secunderabad, on Friday.

Golconda Gladiators defeated Secunderabad Stallions 45-34 to clinch the boys’ title, while Secunderabad Stallions beat Golconda Gladiators 49-31 to win the girls’ crown.

The boys’ final began on an even note, with both teams locked at 14-14 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Golconda Gladiators tightened their defence to restrict Secunderabad Stallions to just seven points, while scoring 15 points through Prajwal and Shrien to take a 29-21 lead at half-time.

After the change of ends, both teams scored six points each in the third quarter, with Golconda Gladiators maintaining their advantage at 35-27.

Secunderabad Stallions fought hard for a comeback in the final quarter but were unable to breach Golconda Gladiators’ solid defence, as the latter sealed a 45-34 victory.

Praneeth was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the boys’ final for scoring 10 points and controlling the game effectively.

In the girls’ final, Mahima (20) and Sudeeksha (12) starred for Secunderabad Stallions, while Pavani (9) and Khushboo (8) were the leading scorers for Golconda Gladiators.

R. Sridhar Reddy, president of the Telangana Basketball Association and the Hyderabad District Basketball Association, distributed the prizes.
