Kothagudem: There has been a good response to the National Lok Adalat held at different places to resolve cases pending under the jurisdiction of different courts in erstwhile Khammam district. As many as 2894 cases have been settled at the National Lok Adalat held here on Saturday, informed Kothagudem Fifth Additional District Judge, Mohammed Abdul Rafi. Motor accident claims worth Rs 96.52 lakh and bank recoveries worth Rs 38.08 lakh were among the settled cases.

The award or decision made by the Lok Adalats was deemed to be a decree of a civil court and was final and binding on all parties and no appeal against such an award lies before any court of law. Lok Adalats help to resolve the pending cases in a speedy manner, he said. Similarly, around 1362 cases pending under Manugur and Bhadrachalam courts have been settled at the National Adalat held at Judicial Magistrate of First Class Court, Bhadrachalam, informed the Magistrate C Suresh.

Khammam District Legal Services Authority secretary and Senior Civil Judge Md. Abdul Jawed Pasha informed that 23 benches were set up in erstwhile Khammam to conduct National Lok Adalat.
