Hyderabad: Google celebrated the kick-off of ICC Women’s World Cup with an animated doodle on Friday, wishing all the participating teams. The illustration shows animated figures in action with figures of wicket-keeping, batting and fielding.

The World Cup will see a total of eight teams battle it out over the duration of 29 days. The tournament will last till April 3.


The ICC 2022 Women’s World Cup, which was postponed by a year owing to the pandemic, kicked off in Mount Maunganui in New Zealand on Friday with hosts New Zealand taking on West Indies in the opener.

In a tweet, “Today’s #GoogleDoodle marks the beginning of this year’s Women’s Cricket World Cup tournament. Read more about its history here: https://goo.gle/GoogleDoodle,” it said.

“No matter how heated the competition may get, cricket is highly respected for maintaining high standards of fair play and good sportsmanship. Hence the phrase “It’s just not cricket,” which describes anything considered unfair,” Google wrote.

India, under Mithali Raj captaincy, will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on March 6, in search of their maiden ICC trophy.
