Government land in Jalpally faces alleged encroachment
Prime government land in Jalpally is allegedly being targeted through encroachment, record manipulation and questionable registrations. Residents and activists have sought its protection for public infrastructure, while the Balapur Tahsildar said complaints are being investigated and government land reclaimed.
HYDERABAD: Prime government land in Jalpally in Balapur mandal of Ranga Reddy district is allegedly being systematically targeted by land grabbers, with large parcels of public property being brought into private hands through manipulation of survey numbers, changes in land records and questionable registrations.
The alleged land grabbing has raised concerns among residents and activists, who fear the loss of valuable government land that could be used for creating public infrastructure. Several acres of prime land that could have been utilised for schools, colleges, hospitals, parks and other civic facilities are reportedly being targeted by the land mafia.
Sharfuddin Hamed, president of the minority wing of the Telangana Rajyadhikaram Party, said the government should immediately identify and protect all its land in Jalpally. “Prime government land cannot be allowed to disappear through manipulation of records. The authorities should conduct a comprehensive survey, verify the original records and take stringent action against those involved in grabbing public property,” he said.
Local social worker Mohd Younus said several valuable parcels required immediate protection. “The authorities should put all government land on record, demarcate on the ground and prevent unauthorised registrations. Once such land is sold to private parties, recovering it becomes a difficult and prolonged process,” he said, alleging government land parcels at Tur colony, Kothapet were encroached.
Wakf properties have also allegedly come under encroachment in Jalpally, Mamidpally and surrounding areas for which Telangana Wakf Board officials have reportedly approached the local police.
A local woman activist said the rapid development of Jalpally had increased the need to preserve government land for public facilities. She pointed to the absence of adequate government land in Shaheennagar for a college and hospital and said the remaining public land should be protected. “The HYDRAA has to act at least now,” she demanded.
Proximity to the RGI Airport, Jalpally and Umda Sagar lakes and the proposed Future City has attracted the attention of developers and land speculators, pushing up land values and intensifying concerns over the alleged grabbing of prime public property.
When contacted, Balapur Tahsildar P Indira Devi said whenever instances came to the department’s notice, immediate action was being initiated and government land was being reclaimed. “Recently, we received complaints and inspected the spot. The patta land in Jalpally FTL was being misused and we have written to the irrigation department,” the official said.
