Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Sunday said the State government decided to accord top priority to education and health sectors after the welfare of the poor and farmers.

Speaking at a meeting conducted by KG to PG Educational Institutions Management Association here in support of Rythu Bandhu Samithi president Palla Rajeshwar Reddy in the MLC elections, he said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had decided to accord top priority to these two sectors and also taken up discussion in the State Assembly in this regard. “The Covid pandemic, however, prevented it from being taken up,” he said.

He reminded that the State government has accorded top priority to the welfare of old aged, poor and farmers as the people of these sections were facing pathetic conditions at the time of the creation of Telangana State. Hunger deaths and suicides of farmers continued in the Telangana area of united Andhra Pradesh before 2014. As members of farmers’ families, the people including teachers should understand the intention of the Chief Minister, who was keen on the welfare of all sections of the people in the society, he maintained.

He said that the Chief Minister has taken up several irrigation projects to turn Telangana into the fertile land of one crore acres by providing irrigation facility to all areas through rivers Krishna and Godavari. Chandrashekhar Rao was only the Chief Minister in the country who laid a foundation stone for a major irrigation project and also inaugurated. Out of 97 lakh tonnes of paddy procured from the farmers in the country, 67 lakh tonnes of paddy was procured from Telangana State alone, he added.

Reminding that the schools would reopen from Monday to conduct classes for ninth and 10th standard students, he exhorted the managements of the private school to take extra precautions for the safety of the students.

He has also asked the teachers of private educational institutions to support Rajeshwar Reddy in the MLC elections as the latter worked to solve the issues of employees and management of private educational institutions.

Rajeshwar Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, MLAs Gadari Kisore and Kancherla Bhupal Reddy also attended the meeting.
