Hyderabad: Drawing curtains on the uncertainty, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday approved the nomination of Minorities Welfare Minister Mohd Azharuddin and TJS president prof M Kodandaram as MLCs under the Governor’s quota.
The former cricketer had taken oath as Minister in October last. As per rules, it was mandatory for him to be a Member of either the Legislative Assembly or Council within six months and the deadline would elapse by April 30.
There was a lot of buzz and uncertainty in political circles over Azharuddin’s political future. Last week, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu met the Governor and urged him to consider the nomination of Mohd Azharuddin and prof M Kodandaram as MLCs under the Governor’s quota.
Their nominations were earlier approved by the State Cabinet but remained pending with the Lok Bhavan since the last Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, who has now been transferred to Maharashtra.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar congratulated Azharuddin and prof Kodandaram on being approved as MLCs under the Governor’s quota.
Their vast experience in public service would help in boosting the development of the State, he stated.
