Nalgonda: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over paddy procurement from farmers by the State government.
The Governor, accompanied by district officials, inspected PACS paddy procurement centres at Arjalabavai and Anishetti Duppalapally in Nalgonda district and interacted with the farmers there.
Interacting with Mandai Madhusudan Reddy, a farmer from Cherlapally village, she inquired about the paddy produced by him in his two acres of agriculture land. When she asked how many days back he brought the paddy to the procurement centre, the farmer said that it was 10 days ago but weighing was delayed due to the crop getting wet in rain.
Mallamma, a woman farmer from Panagal, also informed the Governor that her paddy too was wet on account of rains. She expressed her desire to cultivate the same variety of paddy in the next crop season too.
Speaking on the occasion, Tamilisai Soundararajan said paddy procurement from farmers was continuing in a smooth manner at paddy purchasing centres. The paddy purchased from the farmers through Paddy Procurement Centers so far this Yasangi season was more than that for the corresponding period last Yasangi. To date, 72 per cent of paddy produced in Yasangi had been purchased from farmers through 249 paddy procurement centres in Nalgonda district.
Last year, paddy was purchased from the farmers through 182 paddy procurement centres in the district.
She said farmers told her that they were drying the wet paddy at procurement centers since space was available. The inconvenience caused to farmers was only due to weather conditions, she added.
Earlier, the Governor also participated in pooja at Sri Bakthanjaneya Santhoshi Matha temple at Share Bunglow in the old city area.
