Hyderabad: The Congress government on Wednesday admitted before the Telangana High Court that an incident had occurred inside Saifabad police station, where BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s PRO Mahesh Mudiraj and PA Mahender Reddy were allegedly attacked.

The admission came during the hearing of a writ petition filed by the BRS over the alleged attack. The government’s counsel told the High Court that a complaint had been lodged at Nampally police station, under whose jurisdiction the Saifabad police station building falls. He informed the court that the government had approached it regarding the registration of cases over the incident.

The BRS counsel questioned the government’s admission, saying it was contrary to DCP Shilpa Valli’s earlier statement that no attack had taken place inside the police station. The BRS counsel pointed out that DJ permissions were obtained online and questioned the police’s claim that the alleged assailants had entered the station for that purpose.

Further, the BRS counsel argued that the attackers had come with deadly weapons. The government counsel disputed this, saying the assailants were not carrying knives. The BRS lawyers retorted that the government counsel appeared to know what weapons had been brought.

The High Court directed the police to preserve the CCTV footage of the Saifabad police station from the day of the incident.

On Monday, KT Rama Rao’s staff members Mahesh and Mahender Reddy were summoned for questioning at Saifabad police station in connection with the scuffle that followed the police preventing BRS legislators from entering the Assembly on August 7. During their questioning, around 15 masked men entered the police station premises and allegedly attempted to attack the duo in the presence of the police. Following intervention by members of the BRS legal team, the alleged assailants fled the spot.
