Khammam: The State government was committed for the welfare of religious minority communities, asserted Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.
At a programme organised at Mustafa Nagar Masjid in 23rd division of Khammam Municipal Corporation here on Tuesday, the Minister distributed Ramzan gift packs to poor Muslims.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the State government had been giving gifts to poorer sections in the community every year so that they could celebrate Ramzan festival happily with their family members.
Ajay Kumar informed that nearly 3,500 families under 51 masjids in Khammam Assembly constituency were given gift packs. The State government was giving equal priority to festivals of all religions while major festivals were celebrated officially.
The government was focusing on minorities’ development through huge budget allocations. Similarly high priority was accorded to minority students’ education and around 252 minority residential schools and 38 minority colleges were set up in the State, he stated.
No State government in the country was allocating funds for the minorities’ welfare and improvement in socio-economic status like the Telangana government. Care was taken to prevent intervention of middlemen in availing benefits of welfare schemes, he said.
‘Shaadi Mubaarak’, minority residential schools, auto loans, overseas scholarships and other schemes have brought visible change in the lives of minorities. Large number of minority students were now pursuing higher studies in foreign universities, Ajay Kumar added.
Later in the day, the Minister inspected Covid-19 vaccination centre at Bhakta Ramadasu Kalakshetram and reviewed vaccination process. He interacted with the public who arrived at the centre for vaccination.
He said that at present, only the second dose of Covid vaccine was being administered and advised the public to follow all necessary precautions even after receiving the vaccine shot. Covid protocol should be followed at all vaccination centres, he added.
