Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Friday appealed to the farmers in the State to cultivate black gram widely during Yasangi season of 2021-22. He declared that the State government was ready to purchase black gram crop through the Telangana State Co-operative Marketing Federation (TS MarkFed).

Participating in the governing body members meeting of TS MarkFed here, the Minister advised farmers to commence black gram cultivation immediately and assured to purchase the yield at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 6,300 per quintal. “If the market price is higher than MSP, the government is prepared to buy at the market price. We will set up as many purchasing centres as required,” he said.

There is a severe shortage of black gram across the country. Under these circumstances, the State government has approached the central government agency National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) which in turn gave a written assurance to purchase the black gram supplied by Markfed. In addition to black gram, Niranjan Reddy urged farmers to take up cultivation of crops like green gram, groundnuts, mustard, sesame and sunflower, which have good demand in the market.

Agriculture Secretary M Raghunandan Rao, TS MarkFed Chairman Mara Gangareddy, MarkFed managing director P Yadi Reddy and other governing body Members attended the meeting.
