Hyderabad: Expediting the Manair Riverfront development, the State government is gearing up to invite bids for taking up the works within next one week. About 4 km stretch will be developed under the project with all amenities and tourist attractions developed on par with international standards for which a detailed project report (DPR) has been already submitted to the State government.

Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar who reviewed the progress at Jala Soudha here on Thursday, said the State government has already sanctioned Rs 410 crore for development of the Manair Riverfront. He wanted the irrigation and tourism department authorities to take up both civil and tourism development works simultaneously to complete the project as per schedule. The entire project has been divided into three major parts – the Barrage, the Lower Promenade and the Upper Promenade. Tenders will be invited to take up the works pertaining to retaining wall, upper promenade, lower promenade and also barrage works.

The project has been designed such that the riverfront structure remains strong during discharge of water ranging from 80,000 cusecs to 3.5 lakh cusecs after taking into account of the water discharge over the last 100 years. The Minister expressed satisfaction over the project designs and asked the officials to expedite the works in this regard, stating that funds were not an issue for its completion.

As part of the riverfront development project, the government is mooting to develop boating, amusement parks, water sports, fountains, an auditorium, museum, kids play areas, senior citizens gardens, flower gardens, rock gardens, and laser shows along with landscaping. Sports enclaves comprising tennis, volleyballs and other sports courts as well as walking and jogging tracks will be developed. The cable bridge which was taken up under the project, has been completed and is ready for inauguration.

Irrigation Engineers-in-Chief C Muralidhar and Shankar, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation executive director CV Shankar Reddy, INI Consultancy director Harsh Goyal and other officials were present.
